    Nominations Due 12/2/24

    Businesses may be nominated by Chamber members and community members.

    2024 has been a great year for our businesses and our community. The Chamber looks forward to recognizing the top Chamber businesses and individuals who are making an impact in their industries and in our community.

    We invite you to nominate the outstanding Chamber businesses and individuals who made a notable contribution to the community during 2024.

    Nominations are due to the Chamber by Dec. 2nd.

    The Top Nominees in each category will be announced live on the Chamber's Facebook page on Friday, Dec. 6th. The community will then vote for the winner in each category.

    The Award of Excellence winners will be recognized during the Chamber’s Annual Awards Party on January 23rd at The Yellow Barn. Everyone is welcome to attend!



    AWARD CATEGORIES

    Non Profit Award of Excellence

    This award recognizes and celebrates an exceptional nonprofit organization providing outstanding support of the community's needs and is a well-managed organization that delivers essential programs and/or services to serve the Shenandoah County community.

    Award Criteria

    • Nonprofit has an official IRS designation as a 501(c)3 entity or be a donor directed fund of a community foundation.
    • Located in, or serving the residents of, Shenandoah County 
    • Is a member in good standing of the Shenandoah County Chamber of Commerce
    • Completed a full year of operation prior to Jan 1, 2024


    Young Professional Award of Excellence

    This award recognizes and celebrates exceptional young professionals in Shenandoah County. 

    Award Criteria

    1. Nominee must be under 40 years old.
    2. Nominee must either live or work in Shenandoah County.
    3. Nominee must be employed by a member in good standing of the Shenandoah County Chamber of Commerce.
    4. Nominee must demonstrate the following:

    • At least three years of professional work experience (in or outside of the County)
    • Excellence, creativity and initiative in their company or profession
    • Valuable service to the community by contributing time and energy to improve the quality of life for others


    Tourism Award of Excellence

    This award recognizes excellence in the tourism business. This business contributes to the economic vitality of the County through innovative, ethical business practices, professionalism and strong community involvement. This is a business who has made a significant contribution to the success of the County's tourism industry.

    Award criteria:

    • Is a Shenandoah County business 
    • Is a member in good standing of the Shenandoah County Chamber of Commerce
    • Has been in business for three years or longer


    Home Based Business Award of Excellence

    This award recognizes excellence in business. The Award is reserved for businesses that are based entirely out of the owner’s home. Businesses that make use of co-working or shared work space on a part-time basis are eligible. All types of businesses qualify for this category.

    Award criteria:

    • Is a Shenandoah County business 
    • Is a member in good standing of the Shenandoah County Chamber of Commerce
    • Completed a full year of operation prior to Jan 1, 2024


    Small Business Award of Excellence

    This award recognizes excellence in business. This business contributes to the economic vitality and quality of life in the County through innovative, ethical business practices, professionalism and strong community involvement. This is a business who has made a significant contribution to the success of their business and our community.

    Award criteria:

    • Is a Shenandoah County business with 50 or fewer employees
    • Is a member in good standing of the Shenandoah County Chamber of Commerce
    • Has been in business for three years or longer


    Large Business Award of Excellence

    This award recognizes excellence in business. This business contributes to the economic vitality and quality of life in the County through innovative, ethical business practices, professionalism and strong community involvement. This is a business who has made a significant contribution to the success of their business and our community.

    Award criteria:

    • Is a Shenandoah County business with 51 or more employees
    • Is a member in good standing of the Shenandoah County Chamber of Commerce
    • Has been in business for three years or longer


    Citizen of the Year

    This award recognizes outstanding citizen contributions to Shenandoah County.

    Award criteria:

    • Has shown extraordinary leadership in our community through professional practice and community service
    • Inspires others to collaborate, innovate, and advocate for a thriving community
    • Lives or lived in Shenandoah County


    Selection Process

    The selection committee evaluates your nomination SOLELY on the information you provide.

    Your answers to the questions are strictly confidential and the supporting materials along with any presentations you provide are critical to the evaluation process.

    Please include a good description along with a picture, video, or any other items that help represent the business (mail or drop off). These allow our selection committee to properly understand the business and the impact they make on the Shenandoah County community. Please keep all video content under 3 minutes in length.

    Online applications and printed materials are due no later than Dec 2, 2024.

    We need you to help "ring the bell."

    The Shenandoah County area begins the Salvation Army's holiday bell-ringing season on November 14th and continues through December 21st.  Organizations are needed to ring the bell at various locations within the county. Several Thursdays, Fridays or Saturdays are still available.

    If your organization needs to partner with another business, we can help make this happen.

    The Shenandoah Alliance for Shelter is administrator of these funds to local residence in need of assistance for utilities and rent/mortgage payments with 90% of the Salvation Army's kettle proceeds remaining in Shenandoah County.

    Saturday, November 16, Woodstock Moose, left side, to support the Empty Stocking Project. Doors open at 6:30pm with local band The VERSATILES featuring great music from the 60’s, 70’s and 80’s starting at 7:00 until 9:00pm. 

    Open to the public so no need to be a Moose member, no charge to attend.  Free will offering!  Beer & Wine available for purchase.  Dancing required. All ages welcome!

Stroll through Main Street of Yesteryear, Tour American Celebration on Parade one of America’s only parade float museums, offering an up-close look at floats from famous national celebrations including Presidential Inaugural Parades, A peak inside the Yellow Barn and lunch in the 1950’s Caverns Café. $25

    Description:

    Learn about the process a company must navigate to become certified to win Service Disabled Veteran Owned Small Business (SDVOSB) and Veteran Owned Small Business (VOSB) set aside contracts. You will learn the requirements of the SBA's Center for Verification and Evaluation (CVE) to become a certified SDVOSB or VOSB and how to complete the online application to be listed on Vendor Information Pages (VIP) including:

    • The three essential elements of a successful application: Eligibility, Ownership, and Control
      How to avoid non-veteran control by careful structuring the company operating agreement
      What to expect during the application process
     Instructor Lisa Wood is the current statewide director of Virginia APEX Accelerator. She previously was the Statewide Director of the Procurement Technical Assistance Centers (PTAC) for the Connecticut PTAC and prior to that was Statewide Director with the Ohio Department of Development after serving as PTAC Director for the Northwest Commission of Pennsylvania. Before joining the PTAC (now APEX Accelerator) community, Lisa was a Contracting Officer for Bechtel Plant Machinery, Inc. in the Greater Pittsburgh Area.

    2024 Christmas Parade Procedures

    1. Line-up begins at 3:30PM and ends at 4:15PM

    2. Parade begins at 4:30PM on the corner of Capon/King Streets

    3. Please enter onto Ash Street to continue to your designated stage

    4. Volunteers will be wearing purple Santa hats and reflective vests

    5. All entries must be decorated with a holiday theme

    6. State law prohibits anything being thrown from any parade entry (Promotional materials, candy, flyers, etc. must only be handed out)

    7. Participants are responsible for their own litter and animal droppings.

    8. Open fires or flames are not permitted by order of the Fire Marshal.

    9. Exhibitions of speed, reckless driving, ‘wheelies’, etc. are prohibited

    10. Please refrain from including a Santa in your entry

    11. Entries are required to display the business or organization name

    12. An adult must be present with children on floats or walking units.

    13. Units are required to continue moving and maintain the flow of the parade

    14. All parade entries must remain in parade route until the intersection of King/Massanutten

    15. Alcohol and smoking are prohibited on any parade entry.

    16. The parade is a family-friendly event for all ages. All costumes, outfits, behavior, attitude, language, and dance moves must be appropriate for a young audience.

    17. This event is rain or shine! If interstate traffic is forced to interfere with the parade route, then the parade route will be shifted to Queen Street. Line-up will remain the same.

    18. Consideration for participation in future Christmas parades will be based on your compliance with parade procedures.
